MINIMALISM

By definition minimalism is “…is a tool that can assist you in finding freedom…Freedom from the trappings of the consumer culture we’ve built our lives around. Real freedom” (www.theminimalists.com/minimalism).

Minimalism was first brought to my attention after watching a Netflix documentary (Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things ). Two men quit their 9-5 jobs, stopped spending and got rid of everything they didn’t use (by everything I mean EVERYTHING). The only items were the essential things they actually needed.

As I watched I thought about whether I could do adopt a minimalist lifestyle. I can’t tell you how many things I’ve bought and never worn or used that are simply collecting dust. Whilst I am overwhelmed with stuff, I still feel incomplete, not having everything I truly want.

My goal for this summer is to declutter my life and get rid of everything I don’t need. Here are the steps I’m taking:

  1. Charity Shops – Giving away some of my clothes and furniture to my favourite charities

  2. Cash 4 Clothes – In the UK we have cash 4 clothes stores where you can trade clothes for cash

  3. Depop – Selling my clothes on Depop.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I’ve been following the Minimalists as well and am about 10 years into my journey to live a more simple and soulful life. What I love about Minimalism is that it forces you to re-evaluate or remove all the unnecessary, dormant areas of your life. It’s such a liberating and enabling process. I still have stuff to let go of, but my tip would be to not allow yourself to become so consumed in the decluttering that you forget to enjoy life on the journey. It’s a great opportunity to get off the roundabout every now and then and enjoy the view at each stop 😌🙏🏻
